About Amanda Barrington-Evans
The work at present is abstract and still evolving, playing with the relationships of the colours to each other, the surface and the viewer. Whilst keeping in mind the element of attraction and beauty to draw the viewer in for closer examination. Each canvas has many layers of colour as a base to create intensity that buzzes against the areas of painting on top. The visual conflict is important to enable the optical resonance of the finished image. Works are often untitled so as to add to their ambiguity, making the viewer use their imagination to find a connection with the real, thus returning them to a comfort zone of reality.
The photographic work usually starts as research and ends up being about something else that's formed a connection through the lens. An element of sub consciousness in the work leads to images that are instinctive and natural not staged or constructed by premeditated ideals.
A collection of previous works is exhibited to express the learning curve to the present methodology. They also give an insight into creative possibilities for future diversities as often elements of earlier work can be detected in the present.
I studied Fine Art at Southampton Solent University and gained my degree in 2007. My interest in art has followed me through my life but it has only been in recent years I have been able to realise my dream and concentrate on being an artist. At present I am having a torrid affair with paint and canvas but I am not a faithful lover to my medium as I get drawn to creative play with other forms at times. The passion for me is to create things of beauty that others can enjoy and discover their own journey with, part of my joy comes from the viewers pleasure. My role as a mother, a major part of my life, has been demanding but through this I have discovered that I like to make people happy and smile and this is a large part of making art for me, I want to give people pleasure. I think I have a fairly positive outlook to life and try to find something positive in all things and I want my paintings to reflect this positivity in some way to the viewer.
